Helping fill gaps

SUPER IMPORTANT: Don’t swap shifts – add more!
If you can take extra shifts, please add them on top of your existing ones rather than swapping or cancelling, especially at short notice. This way, you help fill gaps without creating new ones!
IMPORTANT: Be a brilliant backup
Offer to be a reserve as often as you can. This is a vital role: even if you're not called upon, we know we would be able to continue to run the shelter because you are there if we need you and it helps us fill those pesky gaps. There are two ways to help:
- Offer to be a reserve as a stand-alone offer i.e. you can help but would rather only be a back up.
- Offer to be a reserve alongside the role you’re happy to do e.g. if you’re offering to be a host, please offer reserve host at the same time.
- Update this for any upcoming dates you have already made offers for.
Offer multiple roles
Please offer all the roles you’re trained for, for instance everyone can be a host and reserve host! Some roles (cooks, drivers, shift leaders) need extra training. Update your current offers.
Flexible options
You can offer up to two consecutive shifts in one night.
Offer more than once a week including on consecutive nights? Check your frequency and groups.
Qualified for multiple roles? Offer all the roles you’re happy to do and remember, everyone can be a host.
Doing more than usual? Check your profile
Extra shift on your usual night? Make sure your frequency matches how often you want to help.
Extra shift on a different night? Add the extra group and update your frequency.
Night and Morning shifts - we need you
Evening shifts are usually well-covered, but nights and mornings are a real challenge. Please consider offering these shifts if you can. Your help at these times makes a huge difference.
Cancel offers you can no longer make
If your plans change, please cancel shift offers you can no longer be considered for. You can do this in CERVIS or in the email where your pending shifts are listed via the cancel link.
All a bit confusing, but you're ready, available and willing to do more? Get in touch.
