Winter Night Shelter Volunteer Group Leaders

All Group Leader roles have been filled, thank you.

Every shelter night runs smoothly because someone’s quietly worked behind the scenes to make sure the right people are in the right place. That’s where our Group Leaders (previously Shift Planners) come in.

What you’ll do

  • You’ll look after one shelter venue across the winter season – for example, Christ the Servant King on Saturdays. Your main task is to put together the rota for evening, overnight, and morning shifts so every team is ready to go.
  • Most of the work happens at home, about 4–5 hours each month, six weeks before each block of shelter nights begins. You’ll also spend up to 5 extra hours each month helping with changes, swaps, or last-minute cover.
  • When volunteers can’t make it, you’ll be their point of contact – finding replacements from the reserve list and helping with swaps. And if you’ve tried every option and a shift still isn’t covered, you’ll pass it over to our Night Shelter Coordinator to decide the next step.

What we’re looking for

If you’re comfortable using a computer, enjoy solving puzzles, and like chatting with people, you’ll be great at this. It’s about being organised, logical, and friendly.

What you’ll need

Your own computer, a reliable internet connection and phone (any costs you pick up for calls will be covered).

Training and support

You won’t be thrown in at the deep end. We’ll train you on how to use our volunteer system (CERVIS) with a user guide, videos, and hands-on support from staff. You’ll also have other Group Leaders to share tips with.

Interested?

Make sure you're registered either as a new or returning volunteer then drop us an email to let us know and we will be in touch!
