WHC joins 75 homelessness charities calling for urgent action to fill £1bn gap in funding

On World Homeless Day Wycombe Homeless Connection has joined 75 other frontline homelessness organisations to sign HomelessLink's letter to Rachel Reeves MP calling for urgent action in the Autumn Budget.

It’s shocking that nearly £1bn is set to leave the homeless sector in April, while homelessness is returning to its highest levels. Vital services are at risk. We believe that it’s also putting lives at risk.

Locally, more than 35 people are currently sleeping rough, and given how much homelessness goes unseen, that number could be even higher.

One of the ways Wycombe Homeless Connection is responding to this humanitarian emergency is by bringing back our winter night shelter.

It will be open in January, February and March 2025 offering a warm welcome, food, companionship and a safe place to sleep during the bleakest months of the year.

But while we may be running the project, it is our community that will make our winter night shelter happen:

Seven local churches host the shelter.

300 volunteers are needed to host, set up beds, cook and more.

Local businesses, community groups, individuals and organisations offer practical items, volunteers and financial support.

Other charities and healthcare providers visit the shelter to offer their own expertise in supporting our guests.

Buckinghamshire Council help by supporting night shelter coordinators who will work with us while the shelter is open.

Our staff team will make sure our guests get tailored support to find a home.

We urgently need more volunteers to sign up to give a few hours of their time a couple of times a month while the shelter is open.

Together communities bring lasting change and save lives.
