They did it! Kate and James’ 100km Ultra Challenge
After a gruelling 26 hours and 38 minutes of trekking over the South Downs Way, Kate and James crossed the finish line of their epic 100km challenge.
They set out at 10am on Saturday 7 September and finished on Sunday morning. The equivalent of walking from High Wycombe to Southampton! All to raise much needed money for the return of the winter night shelter which will open in January 2025.
The walk saw rain, sections of the path were a mud bath and there was even a thunderstorm with some incredible lighting overnight.
Both had tired legs and sore feet to say the least but also an enormous sense of accomplishment.
James told us:
“After a long night out in the cold and the dark I was craving comfort, a shower and a nap. I reflected on the fact that I would soon be enjoying those things and I felt that I wanted the same for people who are going to be homeless in our area this winter. That feeling of being welcomed somewhere warm and dry and safe will be powerful and I was so thankful to everyone who has donated towards that to help make it possible.”
They are delighted to have raised just over £2.5k for the winter night shelter which will be opening its doors in January February and March 2025.
