Danielle's story: Healthcare is a human right
Danielle got in touch earlier this week. She’s in her forties, has multiple physical and mental health problems and for a lot of complex and sad reasons was sleeping rough.
She was incredibly vulnerable so our homeless health worker got straight to work. Alongside helping Danielle find a home, we asked our friend at Tower House Surgery if they would register Danielle and see her as soon as possible.
People who don’t have a home still have a right to healthcare.
We work closely with the team at Tower House and together we make sure anyone we work with who needs to register with a GP can do so as soon as possible.
Within a day, the team at Tower House had registered Danielle, and a phone call appointment was arranged and she is now on their list of patients.
Did you know, people who are homeless are more likely to die younger than they should, with an average age of death of 47 for men and even lower for women at 43? This is 30 years younger than the general population.
So we’re very grateful to the team at Tower House as well as Priory Surgery and other healthcare staff across Bucks whom we work with to make sure the people we serve are given help, hope and good health.
